Review of the First Law

In this lesson, we will discuss the limitations of the 1st Law why we need the

Second Law of Thermodynamics

The 2nd Law is the key to the analysis of thermodynamic cycles.
Energy can be neither created nor destroyed;
it can only change forms.

The First Law of Thermodynamics

A large amount of heat is rejected.
A relatively small amount of heat is absorbed by the system from the cold reservoir.
A relatively small amount of work is input to the system.
This diagram shows the relationship between a cycle diagram and the series of process steps that make p a cycle.
